Mortgage Lending Platform

First Colony Mortgage Leverages Claude to Increase Loan Processing Capacity by 83%

Ravn built two Claude-powered lambdas into FCM's loan-origination portal: one extracting structured data from loan PDFs, one flagging closing-disclosure/settlement-statement discrepancies and FCM's own team stated in a review call that the extraction lambda "increased our capacity 83%, almost one headcount."

The Challenge

XFCM's TPO Portal is a wholesale mortgage loan-origination platform Ravn has built and operated for FCM since late 2025, currently processing real, live loans. Two steps in that workflow depended on manual document handling: staff read loan PDFs (both computer-generated and scanned) and typed the relevant fields into FCM's internal systems by hand; and before a loan closes, someone had to confirm by hand that the internal closing disclosure and the external final settlement statement agreed on dates, signed paperwork, and dollar amounts. That manual cross-check didn't scale as it covered under 60% of loans. Both steps sat on the critical path to closing a loan, and both were candidates for automation within the portal Ravn already operates.

The Solution

Ravn's embedded engineering team added two Claude-powered AWS Lambda functions to the existing TPO Portal infrastructure. The document data-extraction lambda reads a loan PDF (computer-generated or scanned) and writes the structured fields directly into FCM's internal systems, removing the manual data-entry step. The document-comparison lambda compares the internal closing disclosure against the external final settlement statement and flags discrepancies in dates, signed paperwork, and amounts, using a tolerance threshold to decide whether the two documents match closely enough; it shipped more recently than the extraction lambda. Both lambdas call Claude through the FCM-provisioned API key and run inside the portal Ravn already operates for FCM.

The Outcome

Capacity increase attributed to the extraction lambda: "increased our capacity 83%, almost one headcount" — customer statement, client review call. Discrepancy-check coverage (closing disclosure vs. settlement statement): manual process covered under 60% of loans; automated one’s goal is to cover 100% of loans

"Brian pulled the stats for the extraction tool you built. It increased our capacity 83%, almost one headcount."

Tech & Cloud

Claude via the Claude API, called from two AWS Lambda functions Ravn built into the existing TPO Portal using Sonnet 4.5, using an API key FCM itself provisioned for this use. Claude handles the document understanding and comparison judgment; the surrounding lambda code handles storage, thresholding, and integration with FCM's systems. Claude Code with Opus 4.8 for the plan, design and development phases.
