SchoolAI Builds Teacher Trust and Capabilities in Personalized Student Classroom AI
SchoolAI teachers can now open any individual student's PowerUp session in Mission Control and replay, step by step, how that student worked with the AI.
The Challenge
SchoolAI is an AI platform for classrooms. Teachers create Spaces where students work with an AI assistant, and teachers have their own assistant agent for planning and building resources. SchoolAI reported in April 2025 that its platform was used in more than 1 million classrooms across all 50 US states and more than 80 countries. SchoolAI's PowerUps are AI tools that students use directly in class, such as Document Generator, Presentation Creator and Video Explorer. Teachers oversee that work from Mission Control, but before this project their view stopped at the output. A teacher could see that a student had used a PowerUp and what it produced, but not the prompts, edits and steps that led there. That made it hard to tell whether a student had worked through a problem or passed along what the AI gave them, and hard to give that student specific follow-up. It also left a trust gap: teachers deciding whether to rely on AI tools in their classroom had no way to check, one student at a time, how the AI was actually being used.
The Solution
Ravn embedded engineers and a product designer in SchoolAI's PowerUps team and worked alongside SchoolAI's designers, engineers and product leads from first concept through full rollout. On design, the team took "PowerUps visibility in Mission Control" from an April 2026 concept through feedback rounds with SchoolAI's design team, a clickable prototype, and interviews and testing sessions. They then scoped a v1 and prototyped the timeline behavior that lets a teacher step through a single student's session. The feature was built across three layers: event capture inside the PowerUps (starting with Document Generator), new timeline and replay components in SchoolAI's design system, and the replay UI in Mission Control with entry points from each student's view.
The Outcome
Per-student visibility: before, teachers saw only that a PowerUp was used and what it produced. After, teachers can replay the full session for any individual student, including the prompts, edits and steps behind the output. Delivery: design began in April 2026, engineering in May 2026, and the feature reached production on 12 June 2026. Adoption: Rolled out to 100% of SchoolAI users by June 2026
Tech & Cloud
The joint Ravn and SchoolAI team built the feature with Claude Code on SchoolAI's Claude for Enterprise plan, working across SchoolAI's design system, web app and app service. In the product, the PowerUps that the replay covers run on Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Fable. In production since June 2026.
